What if we could mitigate graffiti defacement of public and private property? While at the same time, reduce blight, raise property values, and greatly reduce the millions of dollars spent in San Diego County cleaning up graffiti?
The Alliance understands the power that murals and other public artworks hold, and uses them to revitalize urban neighborhoods, and even commercial corridors. The end result is that struggling regions are accustomed a sense of dignity, identity, and pride of place, as well as economic savings and increased value of property. Murals can give a voice to this spirt of this city.
In cities such as Miami, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Portland, murals have stimulated economic growth. It has also been found that they actively enable reconciliation in communities in conflict. A great example of this that we have seen over the years is within the historic Chicano Park in San Diego.
All of this could be achieved for a fraction of the cost of the crime and clean up of the graffiti. While simultaneously, converting taggers into cutting edge contemporary artists. In other words, there is no reason not to join us in our mission to transform the lives of these youth.
